Overlaminates are applied to only one side of a print. The second side is commonly left unlaminated (exposed). For this reason, an overlaminate does not provide any water-proofing benefits. Overlaminates are used to:
- protect graphics from ultraviolet (UV) degradation such as fading, discolouration
- make an image wipeable…an unlaminated image may scratch if it is wiped for cleaning/dusting
- improve the finished look of an image
